Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Hosts Mwalimu Julius Nyerere’s Grandson

The senior presidential advisor for special operations, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Tuesday, hosted Mr. Edward Nyerere, the grandson of the legendary Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and a prominent businessman in Tanzania.

The meeting happened at the General’s private office in Entebbe.

For both Gen Kainerugaba and Nyerere, their shared Tanzanian heritage holds great significance as the Ugandan General has tweeted before. Born in Tanzania as his parents sought refuge during a tumultuous time in Uganda’s history, Kainerugaba understood the struggles and aspirations of his homeland.

Similarly, Mr Nyerere had always been fascinated by Uganda, the country his grandfather had supported so strongly during its fight for independence.

“This was a meeting that has been in my heart for a long time. The importance of continuing the relationship between our families and cementing the existing bond is at the core of today’s meeting,” Mr Nyerere told the Kampala media tv in an interview after the meeting.

He added: “Going forwards I hope this existing bond and today’s meeting will form the basis of a long term friendship between myself and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and ultimately the friendship between Uganda and Tanzania.”
